Sacrament

Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession, is a moment of healing and renewal where we experience God’s mercy and forgiveness. It invites us to reflect on our lives, seek forgiveness for our sins, and begin again with a renewed heart.

The parish warmly encourages everyone to celebrate this sacrament regularly as part of their journey of faith.

Preparation

Preparing for Reconciliation

Preparation for Reconciliation involves taking time for prayer and reflection, often called an examination of conscience. This helps us recognise where we have fallen short and where we need God’s forgiveness.

For children, preparation usually takes place through the parish and school as part of their sacramental journey.

  • The person should be baptised Catholic
  • Take time for personal reflection or examination of conscience
  • Be willing to express sorrow and seek forgiveness
  • Children usually prepare through a parish or school programme
  • Regular participation is encouraged as part of ongoing faith life

Questions

Common Questions

How often should I go to Confession?

Catholics are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly, especially during important liturgical seasons such as Advent and Lent.

What do I say during Confession?

You begin by greeting the priest, making the sign of the cross, and confessing your sins honestly. The priest will guide you if you are unsure.

Is Confession private?

Yes. Everything shared in Confession is completely confidential. The priest is bound by the seal of confession and cannot reveal anything said.

Can I make an appointment outside scheduled times?

Yes. If you would prefer a private time, you can contact the parish to arrange Confession by appointment.

Would you like to speak to a priest?

Contact the parish office to arrange a time for Confession or to receive guidance about the sacrament.
