Sacrament

Baptism

Baptism is the first of the sacraments and marks the beginning of a person’s life in Christ and the Church. Through Baptism, we are welcomed into the Christian community and share in the life of God.

We are delighted to welcome families who wish to have their child baptised and are here to guide you through the process.

Preparation

Preparing for Baptism

Baptism is a joyful occasion for families and the parish community. Parents are asked to reflect on the commitment they are making to raise their child in the faith.

In some cases, a short preparation meeting or conversation with the parish may be arranged to help families understand the meaning of the sacrament.

  • At least one parent should be baptised Catholic
  • Parents are asked to support the child’s faith development
  • At least one godparent must be a baptised and confirmed Catholic
  • A completed baptism request form is required
  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate may be requested
