Preparation
Preparing for Baptism
Baptism is a joyful occasion for families and the parish community. Parents are asked to reflect on the commitment they are making to raise their child in the faith.
In some cases, a short preparation meeting or conversation with the parish may be arranged to help families understand the meaning of the sacrament.
- At least one parent should be baptised Catholic
- Parents are asked to support the child’s faith development
- At least one godparent must be a baptised and confirmed Catholic
- A completed baptism request form is required
- A copy of the child’s birth certificate may be requested

Baptism times
Baptisms are usually celebrated on Sundays after Mass, or at another agreed time.

How do I book a baptism?
You can contact the parish office by phone or email to request a baptism. We will guide you through the next steps and help arrange a suitable date.
How many godparents are required?
A child should have at least one godparent who is a baptised and confirmed Catholic. A second godparent may also be chosen.
Can older children or adults be baptised?
Yes. Baptism is available to people of all ages. For older children and adults, a period of preparation will usually be arranged.
What should we bring on the day?
Families usually bring a white garment, a baptismal candle, and any required documentation. The parish can advise you in advance.
