Sacrament

First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is a special moment in a child’s faith journey when they receive the Eucharist for the first time. It is a joyful celebration for families, the parish, and the wider community.

Through this sacrament, children are nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ and are invited to grow in their relationship with God.

Preparation

Preparing for First Holy Communion

Preparation for First Holy Communion usually takes place through the parish in partnership with local schools. Children are supported in learning about the Eucharist, prayer, and the life of the Church.

Families are encouraged to take an active role in preparing their child by attending Mass regularly and supporting them in their faith journey.

  • The child should be baptised Catholic
  • Preparation is usually completed through the parish or school programme
  • Regular participation in Mass is encouraged
  • The child will usually celebrate Reconciliation before receiving Communion
  • Families may be invited to attend preparation meetings or services
